Jilynne Psychologist

  1. Employment history: One of the places that I am familiar with where she worked is the Family Centre in Edmonton where she worked with children and youth and their families. In the role of kinship support worker she engaged with children with various disorders including fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and provided emotional support for caregivers and their children in care.  I have always said that the reason why people get into the people helping profession is not to make money, it is to have a positive impact on others. I like to see that Jilynne has a heart for people and has worked on the front lines.  I see the value in Jilynne’s experience as a kinship support worker and how it may impact her role as a Psychologist because it allowed her the front line experience to deal with crisis and have a real look into the families she worked with. I believe that she can have a positive impact on your teen providing counselling in the community of St. Albert.
  2. Humor: I like how Jilynne has an attitude of creating safety for clients through the use of humor and the occasional cuss word. No one likes to come to therapy when they have to guard them selves from speaking what is actually on their heart, even if it means swearing. One of the great things about this is the ability to be your authentic self in the midst of your session. We want you to be able to feel comfortable and believe humor can be a big part of taking down our defenses. iMentalhealth values humor and creating an atmosphere where people can be vulnerable and feel like they can fully be their authentic self within the therapy room.
  3. Therapy Approach: Jilynne has a few different approaches and interests. She likes to work with anxiety, anger, depression, trauma and relationship issues like intimacy.   She notes that she likes to first create safety within the first sessions so that people feel comfortable to share with her.

She is trained in Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing which is a body based neurological treatment for trauma; more specifically, PTSD. It can also be used with other presenting issues such as anxiety.

COUPLES THERAPY: Jilynne is also trained with Gottman level 1 so can provide the Gottman Checkup with couples and use and teach evidence based skills for couples.
