FAQs

1. What insurances are covered with a Registered Provisional Psychologist?

Most insurances are covered with a Registered Provisional Psychologist. We have billed to Sunlife, Canada Life, Green Shield, Blue Cross, Medavie Blue Cross, ASEBP.

If you are unsure you can always check in with your insurance provider.

We only direct bill to Blue Cross, Medavie Blue Cross and ASEBP. All other billing will have to paid for upfront and receipt submitted to your insurance company.

We do not want it to be a barrier to you getting the support you need, so we can collaborate about the possibility of a sliding scale; however, it may also be in the best interest to refer to a low cost counselling service.

No, you cannot because it may put the therapist in a position where there may be bias to your perspective and is not recommended. We would recommend you have a different therapist for individual therapy.

We have to bill the client for who shows up for the session, so if it is both of you, we have to charge each person for half of the appointment or we are not being honest to the insurance company.

It can happen that you need to be referred to someone who is a better fit and this is something that your therapist wants as this process is all about you. We recommend having a conversation with your therapist if it is not a good fit and we will give you a few names that may be a better fit for you.

Usually the starting is discussing confidentiality and initial relationship building may be hearing a little bit about who you are, where you came from and what brings you to counselling. The initial stages of counselling are to really get to know you and come up with some goals for what you would like to see happen in counselling.

We are located off of the Campbell Road exit in St. Albert, right next door to the NABI centre.

We are located in the doors to the right of the NABI centre and you will see a sign that says wellness hub. There is a waiting room as you walk into the building on the right and iMentalHealth Counselling is the first door on your right as you get into the building.

A Psychiatrist has a Doctoral degree and can prescibe medications; whereas a Psychologist cannot prescribe medication and in Alberta can have a Masters degree or a Ph.D.

If you are wanting assessments done, it is important that you specifically go to someone who does ADHD assessments or another type of assessments. A Psychologist will not do counselling and assessment concurrently.

iMentalHealth works with Veterans Affairs so you can talk to your case manager about getting set up with our clinic.

There are a few different options for support if you are in need of immediate assistance.

    1. Call 911 or call the distress line at (780)482-4357
    2. Access 24/7 is a good option for support but you may need to wait in line for help.

We set our fees according to the Psychologists Association of Alberta fee recommendations.

14. What if I am out of Province or Country?

Currently if you are not in Province, we cannot see you due to College Alberta Psychologists Ethical Standards.
